Research Team

Marcin Lindner, group leader (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5514-674X ).

Marcin graduated from Adam Mickiewicz under the supervision of Prof. Jacek Gawroński (2012). Subsequently, he moved to Germany to work in the Institute of Nanotechnology KIT. He completed his PhD in the December 2016 at the University of Basel, Switzerland, under the guidance of Prof. Marcel Mayor. He defended a PhD dissertation entitled “Tailor-made tetraphenylmethanes: from surface decoartion to 3D organic polymers”. In 2017 he returned to Poland to work at Selvita as a Synthesis Specialist III. After this short adventure in industry, he returned to academia (Institute of Organic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Science) to work with Prof. Janusz Jurczak (10/2017-01/2019) and Prof. Karol Grela (02-11/2019). Since 2019, he has been employed as an assistant professor at the IOC PAS in Warsaw.

He is a happy husband of Marta, father of Antonina, and licensed basketball referee.

Urszula Klimczak

Urszula Klimczak, PhD

Our Ula was born in Warsaw. She graduated from the University of Warsaw in 2016 (prestigious Inter-faculty Individual Studies in Mathematics and Natural Sciences). She moved to Germany pursuing her PhD at the University of Regensburg under supervision of Prof. Dr. Oliver Reiser (defend in 2021). She later returned to Poland working at Seliva SA and, next, Noctiluca SA. Since October 2024 she has been a post-doc in the project Sonata Bis 13.

Marek Jelecki

Maciej Jelecki, PhD

Maciej was born in 1990 in Słubice (Lubusz voivodeship). He studied at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, where in 2014 he achieved master’s in general chemistry, and subsequently, in 2021 he defended PhD dissertation (under the supervision of prof. Marcin Kwit). During his PhD studies, he collaborated on Opus (NCN) grants, regarding stereochemistry of trityl group moiety and its derivatives bearing amino acids and their amides motive, as well as their use in a field of molecular recognition. His research interests focus on organic and organometallic synthesis, static and dynamic stereochemistry as well as chiraloptical spectroscopy in conjunction with computational chemistry. His interests regarded highly conformationally labile amides of amino acids. Moreover, he participated in catalytic research regarding asymmetrical synthesis of tetralone derivatives. In 2023 he joined Marcin Lindner's group, with later collaboration with Bartosz Zambroń group researching new strategies in dearomatization of naphthalenes. Maciej is a postdoc in the project OPUS 23 (NCN).

Paweł Czerwiński

Paweł Czerwiński, PhD

Paweł Czerwiński was born in 1991 in Siedlce, Poland. He obtained his MSc in Chemical Technology from the Warsaw University of Technology in cooperation with the Institute of Organic Chemistry Polish Academy of Sciences under the guidance of Michał Michalak DSc. Then he started his PhD studies under the supervision of prof. Bartłomiej Furman at the same institute and obtained the degree in 2023. In 2021 he completed postgraduate studies in Industrial Pharmacy at the Jagiellonian University Medical College. He was a recipient of the National Science Center's Preludium Grant for PhD Students and the Etiuda Scholarship, which led to a research stay at University College London under the supervision of prof. Duncan L. Browne. He was also awarded by the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences for outstanding scientific achievements in 2019. Currently, He is a postdoc in First Team Feng project.

Jakub Wagner

Jakub Wagner, MSc

Jakub was born in Szczecinek. He graduated from the University of Warsaw under the supervision of prof. Karol Grela. In 2019 he joined our group as PhD student developing the chemistry of donor-acceptor cyclizine embedded with PAHs. Meantime, he gained a Preludium grant (NCN) to develop near-infrared-emitting compounds. Jakub has visited the University of St Andrews to work with Prof. Zysman-Colman’s enriching his expertise by organic material characterization. Currently, stays at the University of Colorado Boulder in Prof. Seth Marder’s group that is supported by the Kościuszko Foundation exploring chiral molecules with potential CISS effects. Recently Jakub secured funding for a year-long postdoctoral position in Prof.Marder’s group within the Bekker program funded by NAWA agency. this year. Jakub received prestigious START scholarship from the Polish Science Foundation in 2023, and three consecutive IOC PAS Director awards for the best PhD students.

Julia Korczak

Julia Korczak, MSc. Eng.

Julia Korczak was born in Gliwice (Poland) in 1999. She obtained her MSc. Eng. from Silesian University of Technology (Faculty of Chemistry) in 2024 (under supervision of Dr Anna Kuźnik). Since October 2024 she pursues her PhD thesis under the scheme of First Team First project.

Katarzyna Piasecka

Katarzyna Piasecka, MSc. Eng.

Katarzyna Piasecka gained her MSc. Eng. from the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice in 2013 (under the supervision of Dr Anna Korytkowska-Wałach). In 2014, she joined Selvita in Kraków where she worked as Synthesis Specialist III till 2019. Then, she moved to the Netherlands to be employed as Scientist in Symeres in Nijmegen. In 2024, she decided to pursue her PhD at IOC PAS joined our research group within NCN funded OPUS 23 research project.

Balasaheb Dukare

Balasaheb Dukare, MSc

Balasaheb earned his BSc degree in Chemistry from Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and his Master’s in Organic Chemistry from Fergusson College, Pune, India, affiliated with SPPU. He gained two years of professional experience at Aurigene Oncology Limited, Bangalore, where he worked as a Technical Trainee and later as a Research Associate. During his time at Aurigene, Balasaheb contributed to the P300 project, focusing on the design and synthesis of protein degrader molecules targeting oncogenic proteins for cancer therapy. His work in medicinal chemistry earned him Spot Awards for the timely delivery of critical project intermediates and exceptional problem-solving skills. Currently, Balasaheb is a PhD Student working on the project “Light in the (chiral) tunnel: a new, holistic approach to obtaining efficient and stable CP-OLED devices” covered by Foundation for Polish Science.

Mohil Thanki

Mohil Thanki, MSc

Mohil holds BSc (with honors) and MSc in Organic Chemistry from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, India, where he conducted research on “Indolo[3,2-b]carbazole-based Small Highly Conjugated Molecules” under Dr. Arun L. Patel. He was awarded the DST-INSPIRE Scholarship for Higher Education (2017–2022) by the Government of India and qualified GATE and GSET in 2022. In 2024, Mohil earned a second Master’s in Pharmaceutical Science from the University of Greenwich, UK, where he worked with Dr. Xacobe C. Cambeiro on “Iron-Catalyzed Decarboxylative Difluoromethylation of Heteroarenes”. Currently, he is focused on developing “Highly Efficient NIR Organic Emitters with Inverted Singlet-Triplet Excited States (NIR-INVEST)” within Sonata Bis 13 project funded by NCN.

Sukhvinder Dhiman

Sukhvinder Dhiman, PhD.

He was born in India and earned his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry in 2022 from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar (India), under the guidance of Professor Subodh Kumar. Then, he completed a one-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), Mohali, under the supervision of Professor Jayamurugan Govindasamy. Currently, he is a NAWA-Ulam Postdoctoral Fellow funded by the NAWA agency in our group. His research focuses on Organic, Materials, and Supramolecular Chemistry.

Martyna Kotowska

Martyna Kotowska, Eng.

Martyna performs her MSc thesis at our lab. She is a last year student at the Military University of Technology (WAT). She holds a fellowship with the First Team Feng project.

Marek is a BSc student at Inter-faculty Individual Studies in Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Warsaw. He holds a fellowship with the First Team Feng project.

Krzysztof Bartkowski

Krzysztof Bartkowski, PhD Eng.

Krzysztof Bartkowski, born in Złotoryja (Lower Silesia, Poland) in 1991, received his M.Sc. Eng.from the Technical University of Wroclaw while working in prof. Jadwiga Sołoducho group (2014). He moved then to the University of Wroclaw and started his PhD research in group of prof. Cyryl Latos-Grażyński under supervision of prof. Miłosz Pawlicki where he obtained his Ph.D. in 2021. He worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in group of dr Marcin Lindner, Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences within Lider XI (NCBiR) and OPUS 23 (NCN) projects. Now his current research interests are focused on the aromatic functional dyes dedicated to optoelectronics with a special effort given to stable organic radicals which he investigates deeper as PI in SONATINA 8 grant founded by National Science Centre.
